Ironman Anti-Doping Program:

Introduction:

On 14 September, 2005, the World Triathlon Corporation (“WTC”) accepted the World Anti-Doping Code (the "Code") for all IRONMAN® Triathlon events, whether conducted by WTC or its Licensees.  As a private corporation conducting triathlon events under the IRONMAN® brand, WTC is the first private, non-federation sports company to formally adhere to the Code.  These Anti-Doping Rules are adopted and implemented in conformance with WTC’s responsibilities under the Code, and are in furtherance of WTC’s continuing efforts to eradicate doping in the sport of triathlon.

On September 21st, 2009, WTC received notice of compliance from WADA, acknowledging that the WTC Anti-Doping Rules have incorporated all of the mandatory elements of the 2009 World Anti-Doping Code.

Athlete Resources for Anti-Doping Information and Education:

The World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) encourages all athletes to know and understand their rights and responsibilities with regard to anti-doping policy and procedure.  The following on-line resources are available to all athletes and all athletes are encouraged to review these and other anti-doping resources and information available through your National Anti-Doping Organization.  The WTC will continue to update athletes through its website at www.ironmanusa.com and through informational updates included.

Applicable Rules:

The World Anti-Doping Code (Code) is the document that harmonizes regulations regarding anti-doping in sport across all sports and all countries of the world. The Code provides a framework for anti-doping policies, rules, and regulations for sport organizations and public authorities.  The Code may be reviewed at http://www.wada-ama.org/rtecontent/document/code_v2009_En.pdf.

The World Triathlon Corporation Anti-Doping Rules for Ironman Triathlon Events (WTC Anti-Doping Rules) are in full compliance with the WADA Code and apply to each participant in IRONMAN® Triathlon events by virtue of the participant’s application for entry and/or participation in IRONMAN® Triathlon events.  The WTC Anti-Doping Rules may be reviewed at http://www.ironmanusa.com/wtc-antidoping-rules.pdf.

The World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) has published a number of resources to help athletes understand the dangers and consequences of doping, as well as their responsibilities under the World Anti-Doping Code.  These resources listed below are available in the Athlete Resources section of the WADA website at www.wada-ama.org.

The substances which require a Declaration of Use are listed below:
    1. Albuterol and Salmeterol by inhalation for the treatment of asthma
    2. Inhaled or locally injected glucocorticosteroids (intramuscular use requires a TUE)
